Overview

This is a fictional app that I and 4 other group members have created using the UX design process.

Within this project, we were given the task of coming up with our app and taking all the steps of the Design Process we found necessary to help us on our journey of creating a functioning app.

Within this project, we all participated in each step of the process and all had varying ideas and suggestions, along with our user interviews and insights helped us.

Welcome to Artist Supply Station part 1.

Problem Statement

"Hobbyist artists and crafters need a way to acquire affordable resources and offload old or used ones, because art supplies are too expensive and hobbyists have limited storage space"

Users and Audience

For our app, our primary target users and audience are artists and hobbyists that don't want to spend the money or don't have the income to buy brand new supplies. Another user could be someone who doesn't want to take the risk of buying expensive supplies for a craft or piece of art.

The main idea behind the app was that users could trade excess or unwanted art or hobby supplies with each other. The app is designed to be a complete bartering or trading system so that now monetary transactions are involved.

Roles and Responsibilities

For this project, we were paired in a group by our professor. Our group of 5, myself (Lowgan) Madeline, Yue Lie, Krishna, and Sukriti all decided to work on every portion of the project together so that we would have experience using our skills in the design process.

For the majority of our projects and process, all of us participate in brainstorming, ideation, creation, and development. Which helped us all stay on the same page and have clear communication between the group.

Constraints

Some constraints of this project are:

- Each member has a different approach to our problem

- Creating a valuable app that could get users and keep them using it

- Completing all the steps we find necessary to get the results and information we want.

The Process - Idea

After getting placed into our group, we all decided to meet after class one day to brainstorm potential apps that we could create. Here is our brainstorming map after our first meeting, and when we decided to pursue creating an app for artists and hobbyists.

We then came up with our intro and overall statement:
"With the cost of goods rising and wages stagnant, it's become harder to find spare funds for hobbies-even the ones we're most passionate about. Our team set out to find and create solutions for artists and crafter hobbyists."

The Process - Interviews

After we came up with our initial statement, we all created proto-personas for our target users.  Here I'll be showing everything I did for our group.

After we decided who our target users would be, we went out and each tried to interview as many people that fit the profiles of our target users. Below are 2 interviews I did, completed with empathy maps.

The Process - Research

Another step we took as a group was secondary research. We wanted to see if this app has been done before and if so, what could we do better than what was already out there. Here is a table of some of our findings.

The Process - Assumptions and Hypothesis

After our user interviews, secondary research, proto personas and initial idea we decided to brainstorm some assumptions, How might we's and a hypothesis.
Some Assumptions included were:
- The user is looking to acquire more art supplies
- Artists have leftover or old supplies
- Artists want to get rid of said supplies

- Artists focus on the quality and price at the same time
Some How Might We's included were:
- HMW know that people want to use this service (app/website)?
- HMW ensure people are having a good experience when looking for supplies?
- HMW we grow the community?
- HMW ensure the privacy and safety of our users?
Our Hypothesis is:
" We believe that by facilitating the trade of art supplies between hobbyists we can help artists acquire new resources and get rid of old or used ones.

We will know this to be true when hobbyists use this app to facilitate supply trades"

The Process - Crazy 6 Exercise

After completing more of our design process we all went ahead and did the crazy 6 exercises, to see what things we all thought were necessary for our app design. Below is my Crazy 6 Drawing.

The Process - Information Architecture and User Flow

After the Crazy 6 Exercise, we went ahead and created our desired Information Architecture and User Flow.

The Process - Low-Fil Drawings

We then went ahead to create our low-fidelity drawings. Here are the drawings we chose to present with our presentation, drawn up by one of our group members.

Outcomes, Results and Conclusion

In the outcome and results of part 1, coming up with an idea and creating it we found that the more in communication we were with each other, the more we could brainstorm and come up with different ways and approaches to certain issues.
This helped us create our app to be more user-centered and should hopefully render better results.
With part 1 of our 3 part capstone project completed, some things we need to complete and do for part 2 are:

- User Testing of our Low Fidelity/ Medium Fidelity
- Branding and Color
- Task flows for each page of our app.
